7 Best Games to Play With Your Long-Distance Partner

Best Games

Let’s be honest, long-distance relationships are challenging, mainly because there’s a lack of physical intimacy.

However, game nights are a great way for gamers to connect with their significant others. Whether you’re a duo, showing zombies who’s the boss, or fighting against a group of 100 people to be the last one standing, you’ll find a co-op game for your taste here.

I’ve had a great experience with my Latino girlfriend who lives in Dallas, while I’m here in Alexandria.

Since we can’t play local co-op, my girlfriend recommended we both switch to Optimum Internet. We’ve had a great experience gaming on it, and she particularly likes the Optimum servicio al cliente en español, where you can talk to a native Spanish-speaking representative.

Without further ado, here are seven games you need to play with that special someone on your virtual date night.

It Takes Two

If I was asked if there was a perfecto co-op game for couples, It Takes Two would probably spring to my mind instantly.

It’s a game about a married couple about to divorce whose minds become trapped in two handmade dolls. In this split-screen co-op game, they have to work together and try to get back to their real bodies. The game tackles some serious themes in a lighthearted way, making this one of the best games to play with your partner.

The best part about this game is that you don’t have to get two copies of the game. Only one of you has to buy the game, and the other can play if using a Friend Pass.

Overcooked! 2

I’m going to be honest, this game isn’t for every couple. It’s the type of game that makes you rage and maybe want to throw your controller at a wall.

You’ll be tasked with running a kitchen that seems to exist in some unlikely situations, like hot air balloons, a magic castle, or a rail mine. Cooking the impossible order that comes through can get extremely chaotic, leading to some fun screaming matches between you and your partner.

But let’s make sure we stay respectful in this cooking chaos, Do you understand? (Lo entiendes?)

We Were Here (Series)

The entire series of We Were Here are some great bite-sized games you should play with your partner.

You’re tasked with exploring abandoned areas and solving puzzles together. You have a walkie-talkie you can use to communicate and solve puzzles together. You’ll have to describe the area you’re in and what you see. By telling each other clues, you can work on solving the puzzles and escaping the rooms you’re trapped in.

We particularly enjoyed the second game, We Were Here Too, but I recommend starting with We Were Here since it’s free on Steam.

Minecraft

A list of best co-op games wouldn’t be complete if there was no Minecraft on it. It’s a game that’s extremely simple to pick up and play but has a lot of depth to offer.

You and your partner will spawn in a procedurally generated world, one that’s unique for every player. In the voxel-based world, you can create and break structures to craft different items. Doing so will open up new opportunities to explore, mine, and fight creatures.

Playing the game in survival mode is extremely fun, especially because one partner is usually the one who likes to explore and craft, whereas the other likes to build creative structures.

Fortnite

The multiplayer genre of games was dominated by battle royale games around two years ago. The one game that stood the test of time was Fortnite, and for good reason.

In Fortnite’s main modes, you drop on an island with around 100 people and fight till the last one remains. Over the years, new modes have been added, such as LEGO Fortnite, a mode that puts a spin on the formula by adding proper building mechanics through LEGO blocks. Ballistic is another mode where two teams of five compete against each other, similar to games like Counter-Strike and Valorant.

We love playing Fortnite, mainly because there is seemingly an infinite amount of content in the game, keeping it fresh.

Portal 2

If you and your special someone are a fan of puzzle games, then this game is perfect for you.

In this game, you embark on a journey, where you have a gun that can create portals on one surface that lead to another portal. The puzzles in this game are mind-bending, and you’re going to have a fun time trying to solve them with your partner.

The game often goes on sale on Steam, sometimes for less than a Dollar. Even without the sale, the game is extremely cheap and worth the cost.

Baldur’s Gate 3

I’ll be honest, this game isn’t for everyone. However, if you and your partner are a fan of role-playing games and Dungeons & Dragons, then Baldur’s Gate 3 is one adventure you both need to take together.

The game is already a stellar experience solo, but it gets even better when played with friends. Simple conversations can quickly go south and result in bloodbaths. This will lead to some truly fun times, which are only possible when playing co-op.

While the game can be extremely fun, it has a huge learning curve. So, I recommend taking your time with the game.

These were my picks for some of the best games you can play with your partner. Do you have any undiscovered gems for me to try out with my girlfriend? Feel free to leave them in the comments below.
